HGUC Zaku II Tri Stars

This Zaku II kit is by far one of the best Zaku kits I've worked on. A strange way to open an article on the build itself, but I needed to get it out there straight away. It's a near perfect HGUC kit.

So, I began 2014 with the plans of building this one pretty quick. I also decided to use it for my upcoming entry into the 2014 GBWC but I've decided to use it as a stand alone kit until I get to the point that it will become part of the larger build.

After snapping it together (which revealed only a few seams that needed removing), I began modifying by changing the piping to springs, adding a monoeye dome, and then converting some seam lines into panel lines.

Once that was done, I painted in similar colours to that of the Tri Stars, but focussed more on the darker colours rather than the brighter pinky purple that the OOB is made with. Once that painting was done, I added some decals from the RG Zaku II set and then weathered using the sponge chipping method.

For the base, I sandwiched two electronic boards together and then used some wire mesh and left over sprues to make a Rebar and Piping effect like it was a panel of space junk that had been torn off a larger piece. That was also decalled and weathered appropriately.

All in all, it was a quick build of an awesome kit. And it looks like I'll be doing more of these soon...
