26th annual Australian model expo:

Over the Queen's Birthday long weekend over here in Australia (6th to 8th of June), the 26th Annual Australian Model Expo (and competition) was held at the Sandown Racecourse in Melbourne. This year saw a return to a 3 day event after last years 'shrinkage' down to a 2 day event due to a clash of events.

It was a great return to form as well. This year managed to attract the biggest amount of entries in the Competition in the last 12 years. There was also a record number of traders in attendance, with around 30 setting up stalls in the main expo area.

I took 6 of my builds with me to Expo this year, which I drove down to the Racecourse on the Friday night (entires were being taken then too) as I had to work on the Saturday morning. Here is what I entered this year :

When I returned to the event on the Monday, I was pleasantly suprised to see not only 2 Commended Awards for my Shin Musha and Marasai, but I managed to take out 3rd place in the Sci Fi Vehicles and Equipment Category with my Ma.K A.F.S Mk II that I recently completed. Here is what I recieved at the event, the 3rd place trophy and the 2 Commended Awards :

While I was at Expo, I managed to take a heap of pictures and video. You will have to excuse the video (sorry for the focusing and shaking issues) as it was a last minute decision to do some filming to fill in some time and all I had on me was my digital camera - which isn't the best for video. I've compiled the best of the video into the following 8 and a half minute clip :

I also took 224 pictures of the event and all can be found in the Gallery which can be accessed by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.

For more information on this and forthcoming events, feel free to visit the IPMS Australia site and the Model Expo site.

If anyone sees their model in the Gallery and would like the original photo, please drop me a line via the Contact page and I'll be more than happy to email them to you.
