Wheels and Tracks 2009

Wheels and Tracks

On the 15th of March 2009, IPMS Australia held it's annual 'Wheels and Tracks' Military Modeling Competition and Display at St Michaels Parish Church in Ashburton (a suburb of Melbourne).

The doors opened at 1pm for the general public and I was there right on the dot. Having never attended this show before, I was pleasantly suprised with the large amount of kits on display (35+ from memory). While I'm not that familiar with the many of the kits on display, each showed a great amount of detail and effort and I took away a few new ideas for future builds as well. There were also quite a few dioramas and vignettes, which regular viewers of the site may well know are of quite an interest to me.

There were also a number of vendors there as well selling a lot of military kits and supplies. Unfortunately, nothing took my fancy so I didn't end up with any kits (which was good as I spent a bit of money the week before at the Eastern Modelers Swap and Sell in Box Hill (another suburb of Melbourne)).

Overall, I enjoyed this show and in many ways reminded me of a smaller version of Model Expo (which makes sense since it's the same guys running both!). Hopefully next year I will have something to enter, even if it's only one kit.

While I was there, I managed to snap a few pictures of what was on display. I've compiled them all into a Gallery which can be accessed by clicking the banner link below :
